Breast Implants

Every body is different and no two women see their bodies—or their breasts—in exactly the same way. Our highest priority is to better understand your goals in creating the breasts, the body, and the look that makes you feel your best. Breast implant surgery is our most common procedure because it works. Our patients say it every day: “I love my new breasts!”

Internal Bra Support

Mesh Internal Bra for breast augmentation. Certain shapes and conditions of the breasts may require special surgical experience to achieve optimal results. Whether with initial augmentation or a revision, we have extensive experience with a multitude of advanced techniques for treating complex problems due to breast anatomy or complications from existing implants.

Breast Fat Grafting

We have hundreds of patients who are absolutely thrilled with their breast fat grafting procedures. And they tell us so. Whether breast fat grafting is performed as a stand-alone procedure or is combined with implant surgery, Dr. Connall and the entire Esprit team create beautiful results using this all-natural technique for breasts of all sizes and shapes.

It’s amazing how one little change can dramatically change the way people see you and how you see yourself.

FAQs

Lingering questions? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often. We hope they help in making the decision that’s right for you. We’d be happy to address any remaining questions you may have with a one-to-one consultation.

Dr. Connall has refined his surgical technique, anesthesia, and post-operative care to provide patients with a rapid recovery after breast augmentation. Most feel well the day after surgery. Most breast implant and breast fat grafting patients return to most basic daily activities like work and driving within 3-5 days after surgery.

No, Dr. Connall does not use drains after breast augmentation

No. With our gentle surgical technique, we find that our patients do well with pain control and do not require the added, risk, hassle, and expense a pain pump causes.

No. No tight wraps or bras are used after implant surgery.

The next day.

Immediately after surgery. In fact, as part of our rapid recovery approach, we want patients to move their arms freely after surgery.

The key to controlling pain is having a doctor that performs the procedure gently to minimize the pain response. Dr. Connall has done thousands of breast augmentations and he uses meticulous, gentle techniques to minimize post-operative pain, swelling, and bruising. For medications, we prescribe an anti-inflammatory (like ibuprofen), Tylenol, a muscle relaxant, and a narcotic. Most patients use narcotics only in the first few days after surgery and some avoid taking narcotics completely.

You will need a support person with you for at least the day of and the night after surgery. After that, you will need some help, but you will also be independent. Most women can return to work, home, and/or childcare activities in 3-5 days after surgery.

This is a very personal decision and mostly depends on the aesthetics you are trying to achieve. Most women prefer the breast crease scar because the scars are hidden with clothing, even with a small bikini top. Others choose the axillary approach to avoid scars on the breasts that may be visible while looking at the breasts in a mirror or during intimate encounters.

The scar in the breast crease is by far the most common approach we use. The breast crease (known as the infra-mammary fold) is the most technically accurate method of placing implants. It is chosen by over 90% of Esprit patients. Our patients also choose the axillary incision. Dr. Connall has extensive experience with the axillary approach to breast augmentation. He will perform the axillary approach on patients with ideal breast shape and position. In many cases, complexities in a patient’s breast anatomy leads Dr. Connall to recommend the breast fold incision. We do not use the scar around the areola as an approach for routine breast augmentation. This peri-areolar approach has a higher complication rate than the other two approaches and it usually leads to a visible scar in the middle of the breast.

We usually place the implants in the sub-pectoral space, also known as “under the muscle.” There are several important considerations that factor into this decision and in rare cases, we do place implants in the sub-glandular location, known as “above the muscle.”

Round, smooth-shelled silicone implants are selected by over 95% of our patients for breast augmentation. Silicone implants are soft, look and feel great, and have excellent durability. Saline implants don’t usually feel as natural as silicone implants and have a higher risk of causing visible implant ripples compared to silicone implants.

Yes. Your implants come with a limited lifetime warranty We primarily use Sientra silicone implants. Sientra is the only implant that has a 20-year warranty. Your limited lifetime warranty includes a lifetime replacement of a defective implant and financial assistance with the implant replacement costs for the first 20 years after augmentation.

Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices. Your implants will probably break at some point in your life. You will likely undergo implant removal with or without replacement over the course of your life. In addition to implant deflation, problems such as capsular contracture, poor implant position, and infection can require the removal or exchange of the implants.

Dr. Connall is a master breast augmentation surgeon and, as such, he is very precise and efficient. He never rushes surgery, though. So be assured, we will spend all the time in surgery necessary to give you the best possible results. Your total time in the operating room will be about one hour.

Your procedure will be performed using an intravenous general anesthetic, so you’ll sleep for the entire operation. A board-certified anesthesiologist or certified nurse anesthetist will administer your anesthesia and they will be with you at all times. Our anesthesia technique is different (and superior in our judgment) to the basic anesthesia-gas-type anesthetics that are used in most hospitals and surgery centers. Our technique has been specifically developed by our team to give patients the smoothest wake-up, the lowest chance of post-operative nausea, and the highest level of safety possible.

You will spend about one hour in the pre-operative room, about one hour in the operating room, and about one hour in the recovery room. So, expect to be in the facility for about 3-3.5 hours.

You will feel comfortable. You may have a tight and heavy pressure feeling in your chest. You will apply ice to your breasts and take pain medication to keep you comfortable throughout your surgery day.

Patients must be 18 years of age or older, be in good health, have appropriate expectations for their surgery, and have an adult support person be with them in the first 24 hours after surgery.

Women within three months of pregnancy or breastfeeding, women in poor physical and emotional health, those with unrealistic expectations about what can be achieved with augmentation, and those without a post-operative support person.

Not necessarily. Many women have breast augmentation before having children. However, if one is actively trying to get pregnant, then augmentation should be deferred until after pregnancy.

You should be at a stable weight. And, if possible, you should be close to your ideal weight. A significant loss of weight after receiving breast implants could alter the results in a way that is not satisfactory to you.

This depends upon multiple factors, such as the type of implant you receive, the natural shape and size of your breasts, and whether there is any degree of capsular contracture. With the round, smooth-shell breast implants that we typically use, the breasts are soft and fluid and move naturally. However, in women with small and tight breasts and skin, the implants may be firm and not move like a naturally large breast.

We typically send our patients home after surgery without wearing a bra. In most cases we want the implants to “drop,” so we want you to avoid support. We have most patients wear just camisoles and tank tops during the first few months after surgery. After your implants have settled, you may then wear any type of bra.

This depends on the characteristics of your breasts. Most of the major swelling will resolve within the first 6-8 weeks and the implants will be in an outstanding position. However, this is true in those women with soft and slightly loose skin. In patients with small breasts and tight skin, it often takes 3-6 months for the tissues to relax and for the implants to settle.

We advise that you perform implant massage twice daily, beginning about one week after surgery. We ask that you don’t begin massage until we review this with you during your first or second post-operative visit.

We recommend that you massage your breasts, beginning about one week after your surgery. This implant displacement massage is to keep the soft tissue “pocket” around the implant open, soft, and supple. It is hoped that with massage the pocket and developing soft tissue capsule around the implant will stay a little bigger than the implants, allowing the implant to move freely and naturally with your breast.

At least until your implants have fully settled, usually about three to six months.
